Late Summer Smoothie

I like getting produce from farmers’ markets. Because it’s seasonal produce direct from farmers there are a few benefits: it tastes better, is way less expensive and you can talk to the people who work on the farm.

I went to the Alemany Farmers Market here in San Francisco this past weekend. Here is a late summer smoothie recipe, about 245 calories per person, enough for 2 people:

  • 1 ripe nectarine, remove the pit and cut into quarters - about 63 calories

  • 1 ripe plum, remove the pit and cut into quarters - about 38 calories

  • ⅓ cup walnuts halves and pieces - about 190 calories

  • ¼ cup golden raisins - about 123 calories

  • ½ cucumber, cut up - about 9 calories

  • 1 oz spinach (hand full) - about 6.5 calories

  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast - about 20 calories

  • ½ cup unsweetened non dairy milk, I used hemp. (hemp, rice, oat, flax, almond) - about 40 calories

  • 1 ice cube

  • ½ cup water (if you like a thinner texture use 1 cup of water)

  • small pinch of salt

Put all the ingredients into a blender and purée until smooth. Enjoy!

Note - you can also add ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon and ½ teaspoon turmeric if you want a little spice.
